Stalin's Plan for the Transformation of Nature in Mordovia

Deniskin E. I.

Abstract

Introduction. The problem of man changing the surrounding natural landscape is more important today than ever. Therefore it is relevant to turn to the history of Stalin’s plan for the transformation of nature. In particular, the experience of its implementation on the territory of Mordovia seems interesting. Many activities carried out within the framework of this plan have had a positive impact on the natural environment and agricultural development not only within the region, but also throughout the country.

Materials and methods. The study materials were archival documents, periodicals, individual scientific works and monographs. The study is based on the principles of historicism and objectivity, comparative-historical and problem-chronological methods.

The results of the study and their discussion. The increase in productivity of agricultural lands within the framework of the program, conducted by I. V. Stalin, led, as a result, to an increase in sown areas and an increase in yields. This, in turn, had a beneficial effect on providing the country and its population with food, which was especially important in the first post-war years, when devastation reigned throughout the country.

Conclusion. Stalin’s plan for the transformation of nature, as well as his entire policy in the field of protective afforestation and land reclamation, was of exceptional importance for the development of agriculture and the economy of our country. Today it is difficult to overestimate the scale of the activities carried out by the Soviet government and Stalin. Thanks to them, a solid base of agriculture was created in areas of the country that were not suitable for it. Unfortunately, with the death of Stalin, all the actions carried out by him were curtailed; a lot of developed lands were abandoned. Subsequently, large-scale events were not carried out within the entire country.
