Abstract

Introduction. There are about seven hundred archaeological monuments on the territory of the Republic of Mordovia. Due to the significant inequality in the degree of their study, information about many of them is very contradictory. Because of this, the state register of cultural heritage sites of the republic contains inaccuracies and errors. Monitoring of archaeological monuments helps to correct them and clarify information about the monuments, some of which have never been examined.

Materials and methods. Monitoring of cultural heritage objects is intended for periodic or scheduled inventory and recording of cultural (archaeological) heritage objects, tracking changes in their conditions, for example, damage or incipient destruction due to natural or man-made reasons. Documents on the results of the monitoring of cultural heritage sites must be prepared according to the established template drawn up by the relevant authorities for the protection of cultural heritage sites. These documents are part of the system of the unified state register of cultural heritage objects (historical and cultural monuments) of the peoples of the Russian Federation and are subject to indefinite storage.

Results and discussion. In 2022, in the Kovylkinsky District, monitoring was carried out of settlements near the villages of Troitsk and Rybkino, the village of Ponikedovka, the village of Krasny Shadym, as well as a settlement and burial ground near the village of Panzha. Monitoring of these six archaeological monuments made it possible to clarify information about their location, photograph the degree of their preservation, and also detail ideas about their spatial location, structure and size.

Conclusion. Monitoring confirmed the trend characteristic of the republic that the main factors in the destruction of archaeological monuments are anthropogenic influence (primarily construction and agricultural activities) and the natural impact of the natural environment (mainly erosion and weathering).
