Animalistic Images in the Prose of Mordovian Writer A. Doronin

Sheyanova S. V.

Introduction. In Russian literary criticism, problems of the poetics of a work of art, which include issues of structuring the character system and image modeling technology, are traditionally considered relevant. Of particular importance is the study of animalistic imagery in modern Mordovian literature, where animal images become important functional segments of the literary text. The purpose of the article is to describe the functions and semantics of animalistic images in A. Doronin’s prose, to characterize their dependence on the individual creative concept of the world and human.

Materials and methods. The material for the research was the short stories of A. Doronin, the novella “Vergiz Latko” (“Wolf Ravine”), the novels “Kochkodykes — Paksya Narmun” (“Quail is a Field Bird”), “Kuzma Alekseev”. The work uses historical-literary, descriptive and structural-semantic methods.

Results and discussion. The study of the functionality and semantics of animalistic imagery in the writer’s prose reflects general ideas about the content structure and poetics of modern Mordovian literature. The images of animals presented in his works testify to the originality of the artistic thinking of the author, who, with their help, shows not only the social contradictions of the era, but also the emotional and psychological state of his contemporary, and evaluates society.

Conclusion. In the works of A. Doronin, images of animals act as plot-forming elements and create associative and communicative discourse. The basic principles of depicting animals in A. Doronin’s prose are anthropomorphism, biocentrism, and anthropomorphism combined with biocentrism. Forms of modeling images (or a character, or “animal” allusions) are determined by the ideological concept of the works, the attitude of the author, who creatively masters a wide range of problems of modern reality.
