Abstraсt

Introduction. In this article the author explores the current state of the spiritual culture of the Mordvins of the Tetyushsky municipal district of the Republic of Tatarstan. The Mordvins, living next to the Tatars, Chuvash and other peoples, are gradually losing their national identification. However, they preserve their traditions and popularize them. The subject of the study was the customs and rituals recorded during the folklore and ethnographic expedition in the Mordovian villages of Bessonovo, Kildyushevo, Kirteli and Uryum.

Materials and methods. The research material was field recordings made during the folklore and ethnographic expedition to the Mordvins of the Tetyushsky district of the Republic of Tatarstan in 2021. In the course of the work, a systematic cultural-historical approach, descriptive and comparative methods were used.

Results and discussion. Four nationalities live on the territory of the modern Tetyushsky district of the Republic of Tatarstan: Tatars, Russians, Chuvash and Mordvins. According to statistics for 2020, the Mordvins account for the highest share of the entire Mordovian population in the republic — 9,6 %. The Mordvins inhabit the villages of Bessonovo, Kadyshevo, Kildyushevo, Kirteli and Uryum. The purpose of visiting these villages during the expedition was a detailed study of the spiritual and material culture of the Mordvins living here. We paid special attention to the preservation of Mordovian folklore, language, clothing, traditional food, customs and rituals. The results of the study suggest that the inhabitants of these villages are the keepers of the national spirit, proudly and with dignity passing on from generation to generation historical, moral and spiritual values, national and cultural traditions of their ancestors.

Conclusion. National traditions are gradually being forgotten and losing their former purpose. Thanks to caring representatives of the older generation, who strive through reconstruction to popularize Mordovian customs and rituals in the villages under study, young people not only get acquainted with the spiritual and ritual life of their ancestors, but also take a direct part in preserving and cultivating their identity.
