Starikov S. V.

Abstract

Introduction. The attitude of the Russian intelligentsia to the revolutionary processes and events in Russia in the first quarter of the twentieth century was and remains an urgent problem of historical research. Russian writers, in particular A. A. Tikhonov-Lugovoy, not only sincerely worried about everything that happened, but also clearly defined their position, openly expressed their socio-political views on the revolution and reforms, the role of parties, leaders and the masses in the present and future.

Materials and methods. The material for the study was A. Lugovoy’s “Diary of a Free Man” published in the Mayak magazine in 1906, along with some of his literary notes and works. In the process of work, the methods of historicism, comparative analysis and synthesis were applied.

Results and discussion. In historiography and literary studies, the work of A. Lugovoy, his socio-political views did not become the subject of research, since in the Soviet period the writer was actually forgotten due to the irrelevance of his works to the Soviet reader, and in the post-Soviet period, the restoration of his name in Russian literature and journalism only began. The author of this article has made an attempt to examine in detail his ideological and political positions.

Conclusion. The revolutionary process in Russia inevitably flowed into a full-scale civil war, which threatened the loss of the country, the destruction of statehood and the degradation of society. To prevent this, the peaceful evolutionary development of state-public relations could become an alternative to the opposite development of the country.
