Comparative Characteristics of Nominative Sentences in the Russian and Erzya Languages

Klementyeva E. F., Veretennikova Yu. A.

Abstract

Introduction. The problem of typology and classification of nominative sentences is a controversial topic in Russian and Finno-Ugric linguistics. There is a discussion going on the nature of the principle part of nominative sentences, the degree of their prevalence, and on the predicative characteristics manifested in the grammatical categories of modality, temporality and personality.

Materials and methods. The study materials were the works by Russian and Erzya writers. The comparative analysis method was used as a main method for studying.

Results and discussion. The syntax issues are considered to be poorly studied in Mordovia linguistics, so they require further consideration and studying. The works of a comparative nature, which make it possible to conduct a typological description for syntactic units in the languages of different systems, are of greater interest. The article examines nominative sentences of the Russian and Erzya languages, conducts a comparative analysis of this type sentences, analyzes their structure and time correlation, and considers the problems of determining the syntactic function of the principle part.

Conclusion. The study has resulted in the identification of common and distinctive features of nominative sentences in the Russian and Erzya languages. Their similarity is manifested in grammatical meaning and differentiation of structural and semantic types. The differences between these syntactic units are in their temporal characteristics and in determining the syntactic status of the principle part.
