Introduction. The digital transformation of the economy acts as a factor in mitigating inequality between regions in terms of socio-economic development. The widespread use of information and communication technologies removes many restrictions in the activities of enterprises, digital technologies make people’s lives easier, increase the availability of goods and services, which generally has a positive effect on the quality of life.
Materials and methods. The article analyzes the main indicators characterizing the development of digitalization in Russia. The study was conducted on the example of the Volga-Kama macro-region subjects. The information basis for the study was the data of the Federal State Statistics Service. The generalization of literary sources on the studied problems was carried out using a critical approach when using the content analysis method. Dynamic analysis and comparison methods were used to identify the features of the studied processes.
Results and discussion. Since the 2010s, negative changes have taken place in the development of digitalization of the Russian economy: the share of organizations using personal computers, servers, local computing networks, broadband Internet access has decreased, and the share of organizations with a website has also decreased. The majority of subjects of the Volga-Kama macro-region significantly differ in the level of digitalization of the corporate sector and households, which does not help to smooth out interregional differences in the level of socio-economic development. In the subjects of the Volga-Kama macro region, with the exception of the Republic of Tatarstan, the level of digitalization of the population, estimated by the use of personal computers and the Internet by families, is noticeably lower than in the whole country.
Conclusion. In order to achieve territorial equalization and improve the quality of life of people, additional measures are needed to intensify the process of digital transformation, benefits for a certain amount of Internet traffic for small businesses, and assistance to them in creating websites. To increase the accessibility of digital technologies for the population, it is proposed to develop regional programs to provide computer equipment to large and low-income families, and to create open Internet access centers in rural settlements.
