Bimeeva A. R.

Abstract

Introduction. Motorsport began to rapidly gain popularity with the development of industry since the second half of the twentieth century. To date, we have not found any fundamental research on the role of automotive factories (primarily Ulyanovsk and Kama) in the development of motorsport, and this article is an attempt to partially fill this gap. The purpose of the article is to identify the characteristics of the motorsport development in Russia by analyzing the role of automotive factories in the Volga region.

Materials and methods. To achieve this goal, the scientific literature, press materials and documents extracted from the State Archive of Contemporary History of the Ulyanovsk Region were reviewed. In the course of the work, the following methods were used: historical-chronological, ideographic (descriptive), analysis and synthesis.

Results and discussion. Motorsport is a by-product but important product of the automotive industry. The Soviet automotive industry improved the quality of its products and successfully demonstrated new technical design solutions at autocross competitions. Motorsport improves the quality of everyday life and leisure of the population, allows you to evaluate the technical characteristics of cars in extreme conditions, and also contributes to the improvement of the infrastructure of the regions, raising the international prestige of the country. The results of the study can serve as a basis for the subsequent study of the characteristics of motorsport by analyzing the enterprises of the automotive industry of the Volga region.

Conclusion. Due to many objective reasons, motorsport is not well developed in Russia, however, given the functioning of the automotive industry and significant government support, this sport has prospects for further development.
