Abstraсt

Introduction. Sustainable development of agriculture is the basis of our country’s national security. It is associated with various risks, which require government intervention in the management of key issues in the agricultural sector. Therefore, the study of the need to support agricultural producers to ensure their stable functioning is of great importance and is relevant. The purpose of the study is to determine the need for government support of agriculture and find ways to improve the efficiency of regional agrarian policy.

Materials and methods. The agro-industrial complex of the Republic of Mordovia is considered as an object of study. The material of the study was statistical data, operational data of government bodies and official publications. Comparative and retrospective analyses, methods of abstract-logical, graphical method, as well as statistical and economic analysis were applied.

Results and discussion. The analysis of the activities of the agro-industrial complex of the Republic of Mordovia made it possible to determine the high role of agriculture in the socio-economic development of the region. The republic has achieved high results thanks to the government policy aimed at supporting the agro-industrial complex. The main types of government support in the region are identified and their relation with the main performance indicators is established. It is determined that government support in the agro-industrial complex is active and brings good results, but there are some problems that reduce the effect of the measures taken. As recommendations, a number of changes are proposed, aimed at improving the efficiency of government support for the agro-industrial complex.

Conclusion. Today, the government must create favorable internal conditions for the development of agriculture through active government support for the agro-industrial complex. The Republic of Mordovia is a region with a huge potential for agriculture and success in the development of this industry is associated, among other things, with the implementation of government policy aimed at supporting the agro-industrial complex. However, the conditions for the functioning of the agricultural sector require constant monitoring and the development of new ways to support farmers through the provision of funding from the authorities.
