Soviet Television in the 1950 — 1970s: an Ideological Aspect
Gorlov V. N.
Abstraсt
Introduction. The article is devoted to the problems of the formation of Soviet television. Attention is focused on its great social significance. Since the late 1950s and early 1960s, domestic television has been seen as a powerful means of information and propaganda. The increasing and intensive coverage of the audience by the mass media contributed to the strengthening of their propaganda influence. The state position and the ideological aspect prevailed over the facts.
Materials and methods. The research is based on the analysis of documents related to Soviet and party records management — decisions of party congresses, plenums, resolutions of the Central Committee of the CPSU. The methodological basis of the research is a complex of general scientific and special historical methods. The study was carried out on the basis of a problem-historical analysis, taking into account the social conditions of that time.
Results and discussion. The rapid transformation of television into a publicly available medium became one of the characteristic features of the development of Soviet society. This trend increased the role of television as an instrument of socio-political management of society: each channel performed propaganda functions in accordance with its specifics.
Conclusion. With the development of the technical capabilities of the USSR television, the attention to it from the CPSU and the Soviet government is significantly increasing as an important tool in carrying out ideological, educational and cultural-educational work among Soviet citizens. The dissemination of information became a means of propaganda of Soviet ideology. Television workers were obliged to pursue state policy, since television was an instrument of state information.
