Abstraсt
Introduction. The first Chuvash newspaper “Khypar” (Message), created by candidate of theology of the Kazan Theological Academy (as in the registration certificate) N. V. Nikolsky, was published for only one year and four months. Of the 65 issues of the 16-page weekly, 22 were published directly under the editorship of the founder, the next 11 were edited by S. K. Kirillov. Unable to withstand pressure from the Chuvash organization of the Socialist Revolutionary Party, N.V. Nikolsky was forced to abandon the founders and from the 34th issue the publication became a Socialist Revolutionary publication.
Materials and methods. The research was carried out on the basis of published works and handwritten materials, some of them were introduced into scientific circulation for the first time. The principles of historicism, objectivity and consistency are applied, research methods are used: historicalgenetic, analytical, factual.
Results and discussion. In the article, the authors based on published research, archival documents, including memoirs of active participants in the events, handwritten notes by N. V. Nikolsky recreated the chronology of the process of taking away the newspaper “Khypar” founded by him, paying special attention to the decision of the congress of Chuvash teachers in Simbirsk and the actions of the leader of the Volga Socialist Revolutionaries T. N. Nikolaev (Khuri).
Conclusion. The first Chuvash newspaper “Khypar” at the initial stage embodied a cultural and educational project under the leadership of the founder, publisher-editor N. V. Nikolsky and his confidant S. K. Kirillov. Without bothering to create their own printing body, manipulating public opinion in the person of the congress of Chuvash teachers in Simbirsk, as well as pressure on the publisher-editor, the Chuvash social Revolutionaries forced N. V. Nikolsky to abandon his brainchild. The second stage of Khypar’s activity ended with its closure by the authorities at the end of May 1907.
